So, yesterday I finally got started on my new painting. Too many distractions. This is quite a large canvas, 101 x 76 cm. I have decided to paint a city scene. I loved the streets in Rome, when I went to visit a while back and so this was the original inspiration. It will be different to all those ocre and stone coloured buildings, I wanted to try more muted tones of all colours and see how they work together.

Just the main outline for now, no detail. Tried a few things, but I think this composition now works. The eye gets drawn into the centre. Later details will give more interest.

I started adding colour and a few details. But as the sun is out I think I will have to stop until tomorrow.

I opened my studio as part of Gosport's Big Day Out last Sunday.

With the bad weather the week before, I thought it might be a complete wash out, but what a great day we had.

As I only found out so late about this day and the council had already printed the leaflets, I wasn't sure how many people would find their way to the studio. So I was very happy that I had a constant flow of people coming through the door. The very large banner outside the house might have helped.

As this is only the second time that I have opened the studio to the public, I was so happy about all the fantastic, positive feedback. I was also glad to see such a variety of  people of all ages visiting, asking about the paintings and  my work. I also met several other local artists.

So I will be taking part again next year. Thanks everybody for coming and for the support.

And here is my latest painting, finished last week. Acrylics on canvas 60 x 60 cm. Just managed to varnish in time for the opening at the weekend.

Once again I am looking at my blank canvas and deciding what I am going to paint next. I will start first thing tomorrow. Can't wait. I am considering something with sails, beach, water...... we will see. I might have to go for a walk down the beach for inspiration.
